Sheree Feldman – Owner/Director

Sheree Feldman, a long-time resident of Northbrook, holds a master’s degree in speech and language development with an emphasis in Early Childhood. She has been an Early Childhood Director/Educator since 1987 and has been director/owner of Little Ones since December 2000. Before coming to Little Ones, Sheree served as an Early Childhood Director for eight years for the JCC’s of Chicago.  She was responsible for preschool, daycare, summer camp, after-school programs, enrichment classes and family programs.

She promises to continue the nurturing, developmental preschool program established in 1966 by Mrs. Peifer and Mrs. Robertson, the founders of Little Ones.

The Little Ones Staff

Northbrook IL Preschool Staff Little Ones PreschoolAll of the Little Ones’ staff are experienced preschool teachers who participate in conferences, workshops and in-service training to remain informed of current trends and research in the field of Early Childhood Education. Every lead teacher has a four-year degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. At Little Ones the teachers have an average of at least 14 years of experience educating young children and are mothers themselves.

All of the teachers are caring individuals who establish close relationships with the children in their classrooms and with their parents. The preschool staff also works together to ensure smooth transitions for the children from classroom to classroom and from program to program.

Meet the Teachers

Shayli AlterShayli Alter has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2015.  Before coming to Little Ones, she was teacher in the After Kindergarten Program at the Northbrook Park District.  Shayli has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Human Development from the University of Kansas, which includes many hours in Early Childhood Education.  Shayli taught in the 3 year old program last year and is teaching in the morning prekindergarten program for the current school year.  She also has two children of her own.

 

barrRandy Barr has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 1992.  Before coming to Little Ones, she was a preschool teacher at Temple Beth El and Glencoe Children’s Center.  Randy has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois, as well as a Master’s of Arts Degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Randy has worked with a variety of ages from 2 through 5.  Randy is currently working as a substitute teacher at Little Ones.  She also has three children of her own, all of which are alumni of Little Ones, as well as two grandchildren.

Katie CohenKatie Cohen has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2015.  Before coming to Little Ones, she was a teacher as well as a private tutor for children from preschool through high school age.  Katie has a Master’s Degree in Education from DePaul University.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Katie has been teaching in the 2 day 2 year old program.  She also has two children of her own.

 

edelsteinKaren Edelstein has been a teacher at Little Ones since January 2003.  Before coming to Little Ones, she worked as a speech pathologist with preschool through junior high school kids.  Karen has a Master’s of Arts Degree in Speech and Language Development from New York University, as well as a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Karen has worked with a variety of ages from 2 through 5.  Karen is currently teaching in the 4 day 3 year old program.  She also has two children of her own.

GersteinHeather Gerstein has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2014.  Before coming to Little Ones, she taught 3 year olds at the Glencoe Park District Early Learning Center.  Heather has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nutrition from the University of Illinois, as well as many courses in Early Childhood Education from Oakton Community College.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Heather has been working in the morning prekindergarten program.  She has two children of her own, who are both alumni of Little Ones.

Sue GottliebSue Gottlieb has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2010. Before coming to Little Ones, Sue was a preschool teacher at Deerfield Community Nursery School. Sue has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education, which includes many hours in Early Childhood. Since she has been at Little Ones, Sue has taught in classes of all ages from 2 through 5.  Sue is currently working as a substitute teacher at Little Ones.  She also has two children of her own.

 

Linda GreenbergLinda Greenberg has been a teacher at Little Ones since March 2015.  Before coming to Little Ones, Linda substituted in the Glencoe School District.  Linda has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Illinois.  Although her degree is in Interior Design, her college coursework includes hours in Early Childhood Education. Linda is currently working as an aide in the 4 day 3 year old program.  She also has two children of her own.

Lori Heller has been working at Little Ones since October 2010.  Although her degree is in Business, her college coursework includes hours in Early Childhood Education.  Lori is currently working as a substitute teacher at Little Ones.  She also has three children of her own, as well as one grandson.

 

 

LizHirsch-siteLiz Hirsch has a Master of Arts Degree from Northeastern Illinois University in Early Childhood Special Education and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University.  She joined the Little Ones’ staff in September 2016 as a teacher in our Adult Child Program for children 18 months to 3 years of age. Even though Liz is a new addition to the teaching staff at Little Ones, she is not new to teaching. Liz comes to us with 10 years experience as a developmental therapist, as well as experience teaching kindergarten and early childhood special education. She also has two children, twin girls, of her own.

HoffmanChristina Hoffman has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2015.  She has a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University.  Christina was an aide in the 3 day 3’s class last year and will be an aide in the 3 day 2’s program for the current school year.  She has two children of her own, one who is an alumnus of Little Ones and one who is currently enrolled at Little Ones.  She was also a coordinator of the Little Ones’ Parent Group for 2 years.

 

Liza MerriottLiza Merriott has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2015.  Before coming to Little Ones, she was a teacher in the after kindergarten program at the Northbrook Park District.  Liza has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Science from Iowa State University, and is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  Since coming to Little Ones she has taught in the prekindergarten program. She will be teaching in the morning prekindergarten program, as well as planning and coordinating the Friday Math and Science class,  for the current school year.  Liza also has three children of her own.

DaniMokhtarian-siteDani Mokhtarian has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin and is currently taking classes in Early Childhood Education. She joined the Little Ones’ staff in September 2016 as a teacher’s aide in the morning prekindergarten program, as well as in the Friday morning Math and Science Class. Even though Dani is a new addition to the teaching staff at Little Ones, she is not new to teaching. Dani comes to us with 2 years experience teaching preschool at JCC of Chicago. She also has three children of her own, one of which is currently enrolled at Little Ones.

newmanJoanne Newman has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2004.  Before coming to Little Ones, she worked with children of all ages as a speech pathologist.  Joanne has a Master’s of Arts Degree in Speech and Language Development from Northwestern University, which includes many hours in Early Childhood Education.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Joanne has taught the 2 and 3-year-olds.  She is currently teaching in the 4 day 3 year old program. She also has two children of her own.

 

norlieSally Norlie has been a teacher at Little Ones since April 2003.  Before coming to Little Ones, she taught children of preschool age for many years.  Sally has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology from Elmhurst College, which includes many hours in Early Childhood Education. Since she has been at Little Ones, Sally has taught children from 2 through 5 years of age.  Sally is currently teaching in the afternoon prekindergarten program.  She also has two children of her own, who are both alumni of Little Ones.

 

nudelmanEllyn Nudelman has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 1995.  Before coming to Little Ones, she worked with children from 1st through 6th grade.   Ellyn has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University, with a state teaching certificate for Kindergarten through 9th grade. Since she has been at Little Ones, Ellyn has worked with a variety of ages from 2 through 5.  Ellyn is currently working as a substitute teacher at Little Ones. She also has three children of her own.

 

resnickKim Resnick has been a teacher at Little Ones since February 2012.   She has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Speech and Language Development from Michigan State University, with many hours in Early Childhood Development.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Kim has worked with the 2 and 3 year olds.  She is currently teaching in the morning prekindergarten program,  as well as planning and coordinating the Wednesday ABC’s with You and Me Program.  Kim has two children of her own, who are both alumni of Little Ones, and she previously served as the chair of the Little Ones’ Parent Group.

Therese Rizzo has been a teacher at Little Ones since February 1999. Since she has been at Little Ones, she has assisted in classes of all ages from 2 through 5 years of age.  Therese is currently working as a teacher’s aide in the Friday Math and Science Class.  She also has two children of her own.

 

 

LaurieSchnittman-siteLaurie Schnittman has a Master of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Iowa, as well as Early Childhood coursework from Oakton. She joined the Little Ones’ staff in September 2016 as a teacher in the morning prekindergarten program, as well as in the Friday Math and Science Class. Even though Laurie is a new addition to the teaching staff at Little Ones, she is not new to teaching. Laurie comes to us with 9 years experience teaching preschool at JCC of Chicago, where she taught children from toddler to 4 years of age. She also has two children of her own.

Lauren Seiden has been teaching at Little Ones since November 2014.   Before coming to Little Ones, she taught elementary and middle school age children. Lauren has a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, which includes hours in Early Childhood Education.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Lauren has taught in the 2 year old program.  She is currently teaching in the 3 day 2 year old program.   Lauren also has two children of her own.

 

smasonSheri Smason has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2006.  Before coming to Little Ones, she worked as a preschool teacher at the JCC.  Sheri has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Drake University.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Sheri has taught children from 18 months through 5 years of age.  Sheri is currently teaching both the 2 day and the 3 day 2 year old programs.  She also has two children of her own.

 

smithCarolyn Smith has been a teacher at Little Ones since September 2009.  Before coming to Little Ones, she taught in the elementary school system and as a private tutor.  Carolyn has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education from National-Louis University (with many hours in Early Childhood Education), as well as a state of Illinois teaching certificate.  Since she has been at Little Ones, Carolyn has worked with a variety of ages from 2 through 5.  Carolyn is currently working as a substitute teacher at Little Ones.  She also has three children of her own, who are all alumni of Little Ones.
